■ Nikolaos Kazantzis, Ph.D

Nikolaos Kazantzis, Ph.D. is a faculty member in the clinical psychology training program at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. As a clinical psychologist, he has worked for 10 years in public health (inpatient adult and community adult) and maintains a private practice. He has a program of research focused on understanding the determinants of patient engagement with therapeutic homework assignments in CBT. In collaboration with colleagues, this research has resulted in 82 publications in highly regarded outlets. The work has included a series of quantitative reviews of the evidence, surveys of multidisciplinary CBT practitioners in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and the United States, which has illustrated the importance of homework in CBT practice among those working in the field.

Dr. Kazantzis has also edited special issues of scholarly journals focused on the topic of homework assignments, namely Journal of Clinical Psychology: In Session (2002), Journal of Psychotherapy Integration (2006), and Cognitive and Behavioral Practice (2007). He has also co-edited a book to assist practitioners in the effective use of CBT homework (i.e., Using Homework Assignments in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy with Routledge), which was favorably endorsed by Dr. Aaron T. Beck. He also co-edited a book designed to assist broader practitioner skill development and theoretical orientation in CBT (i.e., Cognitive and Behavior Theories in Clinical Practice with Guilford.) Dr. Kazantzis is currently serving as guest editor for two international journal special issues on collaboration and collaborative empiricism (Cognitive and Behavioral Practice and Journal of Clinical Psychology: In Session) and has secured participation from leading experts in CBT and clinical psychology to clarify the clinical application of these relationship constructs. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the Australian Psychological Society's flagship Journal "Australian Psychologist" (2011- ). He has presented CBT training workshops for practitioners in 12 countries.
